ভারতের ১৯টি বড় শহর বা মেট্রোপলিটন শহরের মধ্যে কলকাতাই নারীদের জন্য সবচেয়ে নিরাপদ। এই শহরে ধর্ষণের রিপোর্টের পরিমাণ সবচেয়ে কম। এমন তথ্য উঠে এসেছে দেশটির ন্যাশনাল ক্রাইম রেকর্ডস ব্যুরোর (এনসিআরবি) সমীক্ষায়।

যে সব শহরের জনসংখ্যা ২০ লাখের বেশি, সেই শহরগুলোকে নিয়েই এই সমীক্ষা চালানো হয়েছে।

সম্প্রতি এনসিআরবি'র ২০২১ সালের রিপোর্ট প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। সেখানে বলা হয়েছে, ২০২১ সালে কলকাতায় মোট ১১টি ধর্ষণের ঘটনার রিপোর্ট হয়েছে। সেখানে দিল্লিতে দেশের মেট্রোপলিটন শহরগুলোর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি মাত্রায় রিপোর্ট হয়েছে ধর্ষণের ঘটনা। ২০২১

UGC introduces two mandatory courses in all universities. Two courses- History of the emergence of independent Bangladesh and Bangla Language and Literature, have been included in all universities from this year. University Grants Commission (UGC) had discussed the matter in its 144th commission meeting on June 9, 2016. In that meeting, a decision was taken to make two courses- History of the emergence of independent Bangladesh, and Bangla Language and Literature – mandatory in every department of all universities across the country.
 
Karman and Maguire also talked to around 12 Rohingya women who are victims of sexual and gender-based violence. The Nobel Laureates visiting the no man’s land between Myanmar’s Tambru and Bangladesh’s Konapara border areas have asked the refugees not to hesitate to call themselves Rohingya. Mairead Maguire of Northern Ireland and Tawakkol Karman of Yemen visited the no man’s land around 10:25am on 27.02.2018. Around 700,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh since August 2017, fleeing the Myanmar military’s oppression termed as “ethnic cleansing” by the UN. During their visit, the laureates spoke to the Rohingyas living in the area.
